Welcome to Pre-K4!

January 2024

This Week

What a great week back we’ve had. Our theme was “The Arctic”, and we really enjoyed learning lots of new things about arctic animals, and how the arctic looks. Even though it is so cold in the arctic, animals still live there. Polar bears, walruses, snowy owls, arctic fox, arctic hares and reindeer are just a few of the animals that live there. We learned that many of the animals change color (white in the winter and brown in the summer) to match the environment. The animals stay warm with their thick fur and layers of fat they have on their bodies. While some arctic animals go in the water, most of them live on the land, or tundra.

This week we worked with the letter Gg, practicing to write G as well as the sound it makes. We counted to 9, and have started to learn about 3 dimensional shapes. Our shape this week was the cube. We made our own cubes with marshmallows and toothpicks in makerspace.

In Religion corner we learned that Jesus is the light of the world. God made the light and then he shared the light with us when he sent his son. When we are kind and loving, shine Jesus’ light on others.

Jessica Reklaitis

Hi. My name is Jessica Reklaitis and I am the Pre-K4 teacher. As a current parent, and alumni of the school, I love what St. Matthews has to offer. I earned my Bachelor Degree from Bay Path College and I have been working in Early Childhood Education for over 20 years. I am passionate about working with young children and believe that each child brings something special to our class. I absolutely love what I do!

I am so excited about our Preschool team. I, along with the support of Mrs. Cornwell, Mrs. B. and Mrs. Pat, have so many fun and exciting things planned for this year!

Barbara Cornwell

I earned an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education and have over 30 years experience with local preschool students. I am coming to St. Matthews from Century Nursery School where I was a teacher and director for many years.

In this new role, I will work collaboratively with Mrs. Esnard in Pre-K3, Mrs. Reklaitis in Pre-K4, as well as our wonderful teaching assistants, Mrs. Pat and Mrs. B. I will be providing instructional support to classes, enrichment activities one-on-one and in small groups, and be a part of working with our new and current families to engage them in the learning process.

Mrs. Boucher

My name is Mrs. Pat. I worked as a crossing guard in Bristol for over 30 years, 18 1/2 of those years were here at St. Matthew School. Then I was lucky to be part of the GAP program. From there I got blessed to work as a teacher aide with Mrs. Apostolico. Here I am today as a teacher aide and GAP worker, loving every minute of both, with all the wonderful people at St. Matthew. In my spare time I enjoy doing arts and crafts.

Mrs. Boisvert

My name is Mrs. B. I am the Pre-K assistant at St. Matthew School. This year, 2023-2024, will be my 3rd year at St. Matthew. Prior to coming here I taught Kindergarten in Plainville for 3 years and Pre-K in Waterbury for 22 years. I will also help with GAP at St. Matthew. I am so excited to work with the Pre-K children this year. I look forward to a very happy school year!
