Grades 1-5
The foundation for a successful academic career begins early and St Matthew School has a proud history of setting our students up for success — here, in high school, and beyond. Our dedicated teachers in Grades 1-5 are passionate about creating a learning community where students will thrive, both as learners and children, living the motto of our school by educating minds and hearts each and every day. Classrooms are welcoming, spacious, and bright, providing flexible opportunities for whole class, small group, and collaborative instructional activities. Since we know each of our students so well, we tailor learning experiences to match their needs and interests, providing gentle encouragement to challenge themselves as we guide them to reach for the stars as they hone their talents and develop their dreams.
We offer a dynamic education, rooted in tradition and masterfully blended with innovation. Think Religion, handwriting (including cursive), and math facts perfectly paired with robotics, world language, and the latest technology. Along with core academic subjects, each child will participate in a full array of special area classes including Spanish, Art, Music, and Physical Education. Our curriculum from the Center for Catholic Education and Formation at the Archdiocese of Hartford has received national accolades and we are proudly accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Our students are friendly, respectful, and approach new learning with joy. They work well with others and are open to new challenges. At SMS, each child is safe and valued as an important member of our learning community.
