FOOD

Many have asked how the food is in Peru.  This country has great food.  Before I left, I was told one of the foods I would eat would be guinea pig!  So far, I have not had the pleasure, but while on the fieldtrip with the fifth grade, I could not resist a picture with lunch!

I have been careful of what I have eaten because people new to the country often get sick otherwise.  I do not drink the water, eat the fresh vegetables or fruit, and never from the carts on the streets!  I am enjoying cooked vegetables and juices too.  A new favorite juice is chicha morada, purple corn.  I'm told by the natives it lowers your blood pressure, I will be drinking it daily starting today!

A favorite meat is chicken, almost everything is "con pollo".  Peru is known for its ceviche, raw fish in limon, ahi, garlic, and onion.  That I will also have to wait to eat, probably after a month or so.  Rice is served with almost every meal.  Potatoes are served as well, fried or as a vegetable.  Chinese food is very popular here too.  There is a Chifa, Chinese restaurant, on almost every street around.  I am looking forward to that experience soon.
